There are excellent hikes very nearby, and outstanding cycling, walking right out the door. 25 mins. to Livingston Manor, one of the best towns in the county.

Set on a lightly populated dead end dirt lane, River Cottage is both “away from it all” but walking distance to the town’s one business (a weekend brewery/eatery) and a pleasant bike ride to the swimming hole. There are two nearby hiking trails up to the Red Hill Fire Tower, a memorable and dramatic destination. But lingering on the front deck with a book in the shade of the maple tree, or sipping drinks bathed in the late day glow on the back deck overlooking the patio may entice you to just stay put.
